The Nigeria Species Specialist Group (NSSG) brings together experts, conservationists, and passionate individuals to work towards safeguarding the country’s unique biodiversity.
By joining, you’ll be part of a network linked to the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC), contributing to real-world species conservation and science in Nigeria.

The Application Process
- Complete the Membership Form – Tell us about yourself, your expertise, and your interests.
- Leadership Review – Our leadership team assesses each application.
- Vetting – We select members whose skills match current conservation needs in Nigeria.
- Notification – You’ll be informed if you are accepted, waitlisted, or not selected at this time.
Note: Selection is based on expertise, knowledge gaps we aim to fill, and alignment with NSSG goals.

How You Can Contribute
As a member, you can:
- Support species assessments & research.
- Advocate for conservation policies.
- Lead or support community-based initiatives.
- Provide expertise for habitat restoration.
- Assist with education & outreach.
Your Commitment
We value active participation. You can commit:
- 1–4 hours per month
- 5–8 hours per month
- More than 8 hours per month
- Flexible, depending on projects
