Are you passionate about protecting Nigeria’s wildlife, plants, and ecosystems?
The Nigeria Species Specialist Group (NSSG) brings together experts, conservationists, and passionate individuals to work towards safeguarding the country’s unique biodiversity.

By joining, you’ll be part of a network linked to the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC), contributing to real-world species conservation and science in Nigeria.

The Application Process

  1. Complete the Membership Form – Tell us about yourself, your expertise, and your interests.
  2. Leadership Review – Our leadership team assesses each application.
  3. Vetting – We select members whose skills match current conservation needs in Nigeria.
  4. Notification – You’ll be informed if you are accepted, waitlisted, or not selected at this time.

Note: Selection is based on expertise, knowledge gaps we aim to fill, and alignment with NSSG goals.

How You Can Contribute

As a member, you can:

  • Support species assessments & research.
  • Advocate for conservation policies.
  • Lead or support community-based initiatives.
  • Provide expertise for habitat restoration.
  • Assist with education & outreach.

Your Commitment

We value active participation. You can commit:

  • 1–4 hours per month
  • 5–8 hours per month
  • More than 8 hours per month
  • Flexible, depending on projects
